Are you head-over-heels for one of our adoptable dogs? Would you like us to help you find your perfect match? Wonderful! Here’s what you can do:
Fill out the adoption application›
This allows us to gather basic information about you and your family, so we can start matching you with the right dog.
Telephone or in-person interview with a Jasmine’s House representative
This allows you to elaborate on the information in the application and lets us get a feel for your personality and lifestyle.
Meet and greet
This is the fun part – meeting the dogs! We will set up a time for you to meet one or several of our adoptable dogs, answer any questions or concerns you might have, and help you choose the right dog.
Don’t worry, we’re not looking for a spotless house! We will check for safety issues (holes in fencing, etc.), look at where the dog will spend most of his or her time, and advise you on any potential hazards.
Adoption Donation of $150
(Puppies under 6 months are $300.00)
Dogs can spend weeks, months, or longer in our care before finding their forever home and the average dog costs $500 to rescue and rehabilitate. Your adoption donation helps to offset some of that cost and also helps support our education and adoption events. The donation covers vetting, alteration and a microchip.
Sign the Contract
The adoption contract shows your commitment to the dog’s safety and well being.
Wondering what we’re looking for in an adopter?
Part of your job as a responsible owner will be to keep your new dog well trained, well socialized, and always have him on a leash in public places. Pit bulls have suffered tremendously at the hands of irresponsible breeders and reckless dog owners. The result has been a mass of negative press when incidences have occurred involving pit bulls. Because of this, people will question you often on the myths and hysteria surrounding pit bulls. Check out our pit bull 101 pages for tips on how to be a responsible owner if you have any questions.
Here’s the criteria list:
- 21+ year old applicants; we occasionally make exceptions for younger applicants
- Locality to the mid-atlantic region for our east coast dogs; or the Salt Lake City, UT region for our west coast dogs.
- An Application that shows you’ll be a great pit bull owner
- Solid References including your current veterinarian and others
- All current pets are spayed or neutered
- Landlord Approval if necessary
- Evidence that you have a clear understanding of the challenges you’ll face
We work to place our dogs in homes where they will succeed and we’re pretty good at it. A thorough adoption process generally helps to ensure that the dog you go home with is the dog you expected. We want you and the dog to succeed.
